What are MOLI Codes?
MOLI stands for Mobile Origin Location Indicator. It's an Australian telecommunications standard that identifies the approximate geographic area where a mobile call originated. MOLI codes are available for mobile calls to 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers, indicating roughly where in Australia those calls came from.
The originating mobile carrier appends a three-digit location indicator (LI) code to calls, which corresponds to a Standardised Mobile Service Area (SMSA) — a grouping of mobile cells that broadly reflects mobile coverage areas.
Note: MOLI codes only apply to calls from mobile phones. Calls from fixed lines do not carry MOLI data.
How we send MOLI Codes
When Atom Telecom routes an inbound mobile call to your SIP endpoint, we include the MOLI code in the SIP INVITE header:
