NBN Co Professional Install

3 min readNBN

This article explains when a NBN CO Proffessional Install charge is applicable. The charge is related to the optional installation of the NBN Co NCD device required for FTTC services where the now exited Telstra Professional Install charge related to optional install of the Telstra HNG device.

This charge is separate to subsequent install charges. Where subsequent install charges are applicable the NBN Co Professional Install fee will be billed additionally if selected on the order.

NCD - what is it?

NCD stands for Network Connection Device. It is a new type of device that nbnCo have introduced for FTTC connections. It needs to be plugged into you wall socket, and your modem/router needs to be plugged into the NCD in order for your internet connection to work. See diagram below:

NBN Professional Install

The NCD (Network Connection Device) will be installed by an NBN Tech and will require an appointment. For SC31/32 orders, the NBN tech will complete this work for free as part of the overall installation. However, for SC33/34 orders NBNCo will charge for a technician going out, as they provide the option of a self install.

Self Installation

A Network Connection Device will be sent to the customer’s specified Delivery Address and they will need to install the NCD at home themselves.

Existing

This option is only available for SC34 orders. It is used to indicate that the customer already has a working NCD and does not need a new one. This is the default option for SC34 orders and should be picked unless the Customer advises that they don’t have a working NCD at their premises and need a replacement.

When will i get charged for NBN Professional Installation?

You will be charged an Installation Fee if you select the NBN Professional Installation option for an SC33 or SC34 order.

The reason for this is because an NBN Technician doesn’t need to come out to your premises in these situations, and nbnCo expects that the NCD can be self installed by the Customer.

On successful submission of your order, you will be able to confirm and see if an Installation Fee will be charged on your order.
