What can i expect from Wi-Fi calling?

Wi-Fi Calling gives end users more ways to connect.

Users with a compatible device are able to make voice calls when connected to a compatible Wi-Fi connection. That means it is possible to make calls even if they don’t have mobile signal, provided they are connected to a suitable Wi-Fi connection. If they are abroad, they can also make calls back to Australia using a compatible Wi-Fi connection abroad.

All customers with a VoLTE enabled service will have access to Wi-Fi Calling.

Will i be able to make calls in areas with no mobile coverage?

If a user has a suitable Wi-Fi connection, they will be able to make Wi-Fi calls in their home even in areas with no mobile coverage.

What happens when i move from mobile coverage to Wi-Fi calling?

Calls handover seamlessly beween VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling.

What do end users need to do to use Wi-Fi calling?

Don’t worry about downloading apps, just make sure your Wi-Fi network details are set up on your phone and dial as normal and your dive is connected to Wi-Fi

What is Wi-Fi calling?

Wi-Fi Calling allows users to make and receive phone calls over a suitable Wi-Fi connection. Their compatible mobile device will use a Wi-Fi network to make the voice calls.

Wi-Fi Calling is useful when users have access to a suitable Wi-Fi connection and they:

Are travelling overseas and want to call back to Australia.
Want to extend coverage while indoors; or
Need to stay connected if there’s a mobile network outage.

To use Wi-Fi Calling, users will need a 4G mobile phone which is Wi-Fi Calling capable and a suitable Wi-Fi network. The service will also need to be VoLTE enabled.

Can i make a Wi-Fi voice call from overseas?

Yes, but only Wi-Fi voice calls from overseas back to Australia will be permitted.

How does Wi-Fi calling work?

In general, a user’s device will default to Wi-Fi Calling while connected to a suitable Wi-Fi connection.

Users will only have access to Wi-Fi Calling as part of their voice service if they have a Wi-Fi Calling compatible device and the end user is using a suitable Wi-Fi service.

Atom does not guarantee that any device will be compatible and/or function with any Wi-Fi network when using Wi-Fi Calling.

Will Emergency 000 calls as usual?

000 calls are supported on Wi-Fi Calling, however other emergency call fail-safes still apply.

Is Wi-Fi calling secure?

Yes, your smartphone or tablet must still authenticate with the Telstra Wholesale Network. So, Wi-Fi voice calls are protected by the same secure industry standards as other mobile calls.

Does Voicemail work when sing Wi-Fi calling?

Yes, your calling features such as Voicemail, call waiting or call conference will still work as normal on Wi-Fi calling.

Can i change my call forwarding settings when i’m on a Wi-Fi call?

No. Currently Wi-Fi Calling can only forward calls based on your existing settings. To change your call forwarding settings, connect to the Telstra Wholesale mobile network.

Can i make a Wi-Fi call using a mobile hot spot?

Yes, Wi-Fi Calling works with all mobile Wi-Fi hotspots.

What happens if i move out of Wi-Fi coverage while on a call?

If you’re on the 4G network, your call will seamlessly move between the Wi-Fi and 4G. If there’s no mobile connection available, then your call will drop out when you leave Wi-Fi coverage.
