This is a game changing feature for our roaming product. Users will be able to make calls and SMS over WiFi, thus, even if their international roaming packs has expired / or has exhausted, they would still be able to access and make calls and SMS.
There’s no additional charge to use Wi-Fi Calling on a Telstra mobile and the calls and SMS allowance is based on domestic inclusions - which is unlimited. To use Wi-Fi Calling, users need a 4G mobile phone which has Wi-Fi Calling capabilities.
Using Wi-Fi Calling
An icon, which looks like a phone with a Wi-Fi symbol, will appear at the top of your phone. When this icon is visible, your phone will employ Wi-Fi Calling for all incoming and outgoing calls.
Wi-Fi SMS (SMSoIP)
Wi-Fi SMS allows you to send and receive SMS messages on compatible devices when connected to a supported Wi-Fi network. It's particularly useful when you have Wi-Fi access but are unable to connect to a mobile network for text messaging.
